Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish and the year 2016 featured four. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks that made the top 100. Then in 2020 there were 41. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma in Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream.
